I’m worried about this next year.

For over a month now I have a lot of pain in my lower back and legs.  The diagnosis from a recent MRI is that I have Spinal Stenosis.  A couple of years ago I had to have a procedure on my upper back for pain and the diagnosis at that time was that I have degenerative disk disease.  The level of pain I am currently having will make it difficult to interact with  approx. 30  five-year olds. I don’t have a lot of patience when I’m hurting. I go in this week to a specialist to see what they can do.  Hopefully it won’t involve complicated surgery…….

  1. Chronic pain is awful. I’ve never had to deal with it for too long but even for just a week or two it can be horrific. I’m so sorry you are hurting.

  2. I have been in almost constant pain for ten years now, but I am usually at a low level during the day when I am busy and distracted. I have several things wrong and have had disc surgery, and had a tumor removed from my spinal column. I am grateful to still be walking- three months in a wheel chair gave me a preview of the alternative. i understand your concerns and I hope you find a solution that benefits your health and your students.

    • I went to pain managment yesterday, he upped my pain meds a little and also scheduled me for injections to block the pain at the site. It’s only a stop-gap measure, but hopefully will allow me to state the school year and be nice to the kids. I had a similar procedure done on my upper back 3 years ago and it hasn’t bothered me since, so hopefully this will help. It it requires surgery, they expect a three month recovery time. I hate taking that much time away from my kids.
